Back to school.
Race report, Random, Training, Tucson August 20th, 2007My fist class begins in about two hours. The summertime blogging was sporadic at best and altogether absent for the past month, I know. Yet something tells me with a 17 credit workload, 6:00am training rides, and still more bike races to come that the updates will become more common. Hopefully the summertime eat, train, eat, eat, sleep cycle will become a little more diverse. Undoubtedly there will be more to write about.
After I left Wisconsin I drove some 5,000 miles, did some bike racing, and then found myself moving into an apartment in Tucson. The first leg of the trip took TJ and I to Green Bay, WI for some WORS racing. I handled to bottles while TJ did the bike racing as the race was of marathon length and that’s just too long. Feed zone duty is hard, especially when you’re looking to feed four people and they all come in for a bottle within five seconds of each other. No kidding, it was a huge peloton of mountain bikers. So I missed Neil’s bottle (Sorry again Neil) and almost missed everybody else.
Next TJ and I drove to Vermont and passed through Niagara Falls along the way. I then raced the U23 National Championships and won myself a jersey.
Then TJ and I drove with Mr. Art Nelson and Matt Beaton to Boone, NC where we stayed and enjoyed the company of Tom and Ferrar Cottingham. Later we raced at Sugar Mtn, NC. Then we drove back to Boulder, CO.
In Snowmass, just a couple weeks after the North Carolina race, my teammate Georgia Gould proceeded to win the XC race and overall title. She swept the series–supposedly the first since Julie Furtado. Katerina Nash took second in the series, followed by Shonny in third. Somewhere down the results list around #7 you’ll find me. Not bad.
Two days later I was in Tucson moving into my new home. I have the best kitchen ever and only have to ride my bike for three minutes to get to the center of campus. The daytime temperatures have reached over 100 degrees with about 40% humidity (this is HUMID for Tucson). That means my clock makes noise at around 5:30 am for a 6:00 am ride time. It’s not so bad after a few days. Well there’s my summer and now I begin the fall. Oh boy, I have four hours of chemistry today, no joke.
