Wobble-Naught

Uncategorized 2 Comments »

Last weekend I experienced a Wobble-Naught bike fit, or fitting system some might call it. I’m relieved to finally do something proactive about my position on the bike. Like many others (I hope) I’ve come to regard my seat height, fore/aft, handlebar choice, and saddle as things that shouldn’t be messed with. If it’s not broke, why fix it? I train with minor aches, discomforts, and even the occasional thought that a past injury hasn’t yet healed. Most of time, I can push these discomforts and thoughts away and train, complete my workouts, and love what I do. Yet people I work with, my wonderful coach, team mechanic (Thanks Chris!) and Waldek all know my secret–I am as stubborn as a mule. Try moving my seat a couple millimeters up or down, forward or back–a new seat? hell no!–and please don’t suggest a new handlebar…or cleats. About a year ago a coach told me I’d likely become a tad hyper sensitive because of a month long hiatus from training due to a minor knee injury. I shrugged the comment off but he nailed the bull’s eye.

With a lot of thought, consultation, and encouragement I went to Tim Carolan in Tucson for a Wobble-Naught fit. Tim did a fantastic job and performed a very professional fit. He had some ingenious tools, used some lasers, and took a handful of careful measurements. I left with confidence in my new fit and also that I can carefully and successfully transition to a new position on my bike. I’m pretty excited about trying something new–I guess I can still surprise myself once in awhile.

You can contact Tim for a Wobble-Naught fit here or at Arizona Cyclist on Campbell and River in Tucson. Stay tuned for some more blog entries I hope.

This must be tacky, but hey, it’s my first big-time interview. My favorite part is the editor’s note that I almost got last place at the ‘07 World Championships in Scotland–ouch.

In 2008…

I plan to update my blog semi-regularly. To be realistic about things I believe I owe my family and friends updates after major races, life experiences, and other meaningful occasions. Without a doubt I’ve lost all readership as my last blog entry was in September, TJ has even suggested that people may think I’ve retired after the tone of my last post. This is not true. I’m thrilled about starting a new season and will race with Team LUNA again in 2008. Happy New Year everyone.
